Mercurius Prize goes to Marco Bellocchio

On 15 December 2022, during the Mercurius Prize City Event in Rome, Marco Bellocchio was awarded the Mercurius Prize for his film “Marx può attendere” (Marx can wait). It was a great opportunity to reflect with Bellocchio on the psychological aspects of his exceptionally perceptive cinematic account of a family’s anguish in the face of tragedy, in the hope of contribuiting to convey the film’s profound message to a public audience.

The event led to an interesting discussion, led by Chiara Tozzi, on the central themes of the film.

“It was very exciting and deeply stimulating, reflecting with Marco Bellocchio, Murray Stein and Nancy Swift Furlotti on the themes of suicide, death, and the possible processing of grief” Chiara Tozzi says. “It was important to share the strong symbolic meaning of such a loss within the complex system of family relationships. All this, of course, from a purely analytical psychology perspective.”

The debate and award ceremony were followed by the screening of the film, eliciting intense participation from all those present at the initiative?

The MP Committee was honoured by Bellocchio’s presence at the event and delighted to award the Mercurius Prize to him as director of this outstanding film, a real contribution to deep psychological awareness.
